Sin is more Than a Problem to Solve

December 30, 2021August 30, 2022 / Sydney Millage / 2 Comments

It's easy to take an item to the Jesus-counter, confess, ask forgiveness, then walk out the door with pockets, nooks, and crannies loaded with unconfessed sin. Sin kills relationships. Sin is more than a problem to be solved.

A Congregational Opportunity

December 10, 2021 / Sydney Millage / Leave a comment

Recently I was invited to speak to a congregation, with their pastor, about domestic abuse from a biblical perspective. Check it out: Calvary Baptist Church in Chatfield, MN with Pastor Mike Gittins November 21, 2021

Vice of Domination

December 7, 2021August 30, 2022 / Sydney Millage / Leave a comment

There has been discussion about the Power and Control Wheel in some circles. If you are not familiar, it is a simply diagram that describes eight tactics abusers use to maintain power and control in a relationship. It is an accurate tool that gives women words and examples to express how and what happens in … Continue reading Vice of Domination

I Know a Guy

October 9, 2021August 30, 2022 / Sydney Millage / Leave a comment

Besides deceit, hypocrisy and secrecy, another obstacle for those seeking help is an individual who has been similarly hurt without healing. If they were to acknowledge hurt, pain and suffering at another's hand, it would stir up feelings of helplessness and powerlessness. The resulting pain and suffering would confirm the reality of evil and its … Continue reading I Know a Guy

It’s Not Anxiety

September 25, 2021August 30, 2022 / Sydney Millage / 4 Comments

Woman after woman is accused of--or describes herself as--suffering from anxiety. Making decisions, moving through the day, talking to individuals, caring for children, going to bed. All are riddled with a sense of dread, fear, panic, unease. The words, "If only..." precede every other thought. The Bible speaks to anxiety. Pastors and Bible study leaders … Continue reading It’s Not Anxiety

Go Team!

September 21, 2021August 30, 2022 / Sydney Millage / Leave a comment

Isn't the idea of "choosing" the husband or wife in a domestic dispute unbiblical? A friend, pastor, church, or family member should be on both teams, shouldn't they? Loving both. Caring for both. Doing what is best for both. It just feels wrong to have to choose one over the other--how do you make sense … Continue reading Go Team!

Are You a Safe Person?

July 20, 2021August 30, 2022 / Sydney Millage / Leave a comment

For those of you who don't see or acknowledge men who use fear, confusion, force, coercion, threats, and violence to get what they want, it's not because it's a unicorn. It's a horse. And you are not a safe person.

Weight of Sin

May 31, 2021August 30, 2022 / Sydney Millage / Leave a comment

When is the last time you bore the weight of your sin against another person--not just acknowledged it, but sat in it, listened to it from another perspective--and owned it? That is the biblical concept of confessing your sin to one another and praying for one another that you may be healed (James 5:16). This … Continue reading Weight of Sin

Show Me the Money!

February 28, 2021August 30, 2022 / Sydney Millage / 2 Comments

There's a saying I use in counseling: "Show me the money." It's simple: tell me who benefits from an action or choice, and I can tell you who's manipulating a situation, especially in an imbalanced relationship where one person uses power and control for himself. Who benefits when your husband gets angry? He does. Why? … Continue reading Show Me the Money!

James Calls It!

January 6, 2021January 1, 2021 / Sydney Millage / Leave a comment

When is the last time someone called out sinful behavior in front of you? It happened at our house yesterday--it's a normal part of life. If that's a one-sided conversation at your house, something's wrong. James says so. James says, "if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as … Continue reading James Calls It!

Knowing Jesus Christ

The most important decision someone makes is about Jesus–whether to accept or reject Him. You, too, can know Him and have the assurance of an eternity with Him in heaven.

God has a purpose. He wants us to have an abundant life–and that life can start now!

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

But we have a problem…

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God.

God hates sin and will not tolerate its presence. Because it’s a part of who we are, we are separated from Him. The consequence of sin is death….

Romans 6:23 for the wages of sin is death.

How can we know we will be separated from God?

Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed for man to die once, but after this the judgment.

But what if I do good things? I am not a bad person, and I’ve never done anything really bad?

Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.

You mean there’s nothing I can DO to get to heaven?

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

It doesn’t look good….

But God provided a solution for the sin problem we can’t solve, and that solution has a name:

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

But how could Jesus do this?

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.

So what do I have to do?

John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.

That’s it?? All I have to do is believe in Jesus?!

Romans 10:9-10 That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

If, and only if, you place your trust in Christ’s death for your sins, that He fully paid your sin penalty, will you be saved–and have an eternity in heaven with Him to look forward to.

John 5:24 Most assuredly, I say to you he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

That’s all there is to it. Simple. Straight-forward. But challenging. The above verses are taken from the Holy Bible (New King James Version). Check it out for yourself, and if you have questions, please contact me via this site.
