Comfort

March 19, 2023March 19, 2023 / Sydney Millage / Leave a comment

God's desire is that disappointment and suffering would turn individuals to Himself. But too often, well-meaning individuals use marriage as the fix. They offer sex as a solution. They hold out respect (biblical?) ....

Butt Dust

January 2, 2022August 30, 2022 / Sydney Millage / Leave a comment

Rules and consequences easily set themselves up for hierarchy. They don't have to, but that is our natural tendency as sinful creatures--to set ourselves up to be served rather than to serve.

Sin is more Than a Problem to Solve

December 30, 2021August 30, 2022 / Sydney Millage / 2 Comments

It's easy to take an item to the Jesus-counter, confess, ask forgiveness, then walk out the door with pockets, nooks, and crannies loaded with unconfessed sin. Sin kills relationships. Sin is more than a problem to be solved.

“Your Cross to Bear”

August 13, 2021August 30, 2022 / Sydney Millage / Leave a comment

Jesus bore our sins. He is the theological (or Biblical) context for understanding this phrase. The historical context is punishment for breaking Roman law. Those who hung beside Jesus were guilty. "Bearing your cross" is carrying the weight, or living out the consequences, of your own guilt.

A Natural Response

January 23, 2021August 30, 2022 / Sydney Millage / Leave a comment

Where sin is involved, we should not be surprised but, instead, should expect the following responses. It is only by God's grace and the knowledge of Jesus Christ that we run to Him when we sin.

The Cleaner

December 31, 2020August 30, 2022 / Sydney Millage / 1 Comment

So when we clean or cover up another's sin and remove consequences and the opportunity/need for repentance, we are not serving them. We may be serving ourselves without realizing it. We are not working with God, but against Him.

Now What?

October 7, 2020August 30, 2022 / Sydney Millage / Leave a comment

It's awkward when a couple is no longer a couple. How can church and family members respond, especially when they're in the same place at the same time? We want it to feel and look normal, natural. We don't want to withhold good or hurt people's feelings, especially when we don't know (or want to … Continue reading Now What?

Repentance

February 9, 2019May 21, 2019 / Sydney Millage / Leave a comment

Those who use power and control as weapons use them well. Think of hand-to-hand combatants in the movies: Matt Damon, Keanu Reeves, Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee. That's an abuser in a nutshell. It's what you're up against--what victims of abuse experience--only it isn't one scene and it's not a movie. It's real life. Over. And … Continue reading Repentance

Get Outta the Way!

January 19, 2019August 30, 2022 / Sydney Millage / Leave a comment

Years ago while visiting a friend, the phone rang. From the far end of the house I heard a small, shrill voice rise and continue. "Aren't you going to answer the phone?" I asked. "Not yet," she said.  The sound got louder and clearer, "Get outta the way! Move! Move! Move!" The young tornado ran … Continue reading Get Outta the Way!

Unjust Suffering

September 29, 2018May 21, 2019 / Sydney Millage / Leave a comment

We are all familiar with suffering the consequences of making a poor decision. Children refuse to wear the clothing their parents tell them to and suffer as a result. We like to think that those who cheat, lie, steal, and hurt others will suffer the consequences of their behavior, but we don't always see it. … Continue reading Unjust Suffering

Knowing Jesus Christ

The most important decision someone makes is about Jesus–whether to accept or reject Him. You, too, can know Him and have the assurance of an eternity with Him in heaven.

God has a purpose. He wants us to have an abundant life–and that life can start now!

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

But we have a problem…

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God.

God hates sin and will not tolerate its presence. Because it’s a part of who we are, we are separated from Him. The consequence of sin is death….

Romans 6:23 for the wages of sin is death.

How can we know we will be separated from God?

Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed for man to die once, but after this the judgment.

But what if I do good things? I am not a bad person, and I’ve never done anything really bad?

Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.

You mean there’s nothing I can DO to get to heaven?

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

It doesn’t look good….

But God provided a solution for the sin problem we can’t solve, and that solution has a name:

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

But how could Jesus do this?

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.

So what do I have to do?

John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.

That’s it?? All I have to do is believe in Jesus?!

Romans 10:9-10 That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

If, and only if, you place your trust in Christ’s death for your sins, that He fully paid your sin penalty, will you be saved–and have an eternity in heaven with Him to look forward to.

John 5:24 Most assuredly, I say to you he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

That’s all there is to it. Simple. Straight-forward. But challenging. The above verses are taken from the Holy Bible (New King James Version). Check it out for yourself, and if you have questions, please contact me via this site.
