Don’t Rush It!

June 18, 2019August 30, 2022 / Sydney Millage / 4 Comments

Christians, biblical counselors, pastors, Bible study leaders--we are quick to rush to  perceived biblical solutions because it seems obvious--it's what we know. In the case of domestic abuse (or any abuse), it is much easier to tell a victim to forgive than it is to listen to, wrestle with, and endure suffering with her. Forgiveness … Continue reading Don’t Rush It!

Get Outta the Way!

January 19, 2019August 30, 2022 / Sydney Millage / Leave a comment

Years ago while visiting a friend, the phone rang. From the far end of the house I heard a small, shrill voice rise and continue. "Aren't you going to answer the phone?" I asked. "Not yet," she said.  The sound got louder and clearer, "Get outta the way! Move! Move! Move!" The young tornado ran … Continue reading Get Outta the Way!

Forgiveness without Reconciliation

November 12, 2018August 30, 2022 / Sydney Millage / 1 Comment

I was recently asked what marriage to an abusive man would look like if he never changed--if he confessed and asked for forgiveness as manipulation. That's a hard question. What would it look like to live, willing to forgive, but unreconciled? Jesus said: “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and … Continue reading Forgiveness without Reconciliation

Couldn’t Be!

September 26, 2018August 30, 2022 / Sydney Millage / Leave a comment

A common response to the book, Sanctuary: Hope and Help for Victims of Domestic Abuse, from those who have never lived in an environment of domestic abuse is, "Wow. I'd never allow that." Or, "What's wrong with those women?" For those outside the dynamic (by God's grace), this type of thinking and speaking is called victim-blaming. … Continue reading Couldn’t Be!

Knowing Jesus Christ

The most important decision someone makes is about Jesus–whether to accept or reject Him. You, too, can know Him and have the assurance of an eternity with Him in heaven.

God has a purpose. He wants us to have an abundant life–and that life can start now!

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

But we have a problem…

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God.

God hates sin and will not tolerate its presence. Because it’s a part of who we are, we are separated from Him. The consequence of sin is death….

Romans 6:23 for the wages of sin is death.

How can we know we will be separated from God?

Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed for man to die once, but after this the judgment.

But what if I do good things? I am not a bad person, and I’ve never done anything really bad?

Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.

You mean there’s nothing I can DO to get to heaven?

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

It doesn’t look good….

But God provided a solution for the sin problem we can’t solve, and that solution has a name:

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

But how could Jesus do this?

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.

So what do I have to do?

John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.

That’s it?? All I have to do is believe in Jesus?!

Romans 10:9-10 That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

If, and only if, you place your trust in Christ’s death for your sins, that He fully paid your sin penalty, will you be saved–and have an eternity in heaven with Him to look forward to.

John 5:24 Most assuredly, I say to you he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

That’s all there is to it. Simple. Straight-forward. But challenging. The above verses are taken from the Holy Bible (New King James Version). Check it out for yourself, and if you have questions, please contact me via this site.
